The Motorola MC3090 series comes on the heels of the success of the MC3000 series. It does boast of new features like improved WLAN Security options and the integrated CE .NET operating system.

Motorola has a long history of innovations. The new model MC 3090 actually signals the introduction of a new form factor for this family because of its integrated trigger handle. Motorola MC3090 features a smart resolution of 320x320 pixels and a reasonable scanner and imager. There are various types of keypads available with a number of keys. The Lithium-ion battery is worth 16 watt hours too which is incredible too. The MC3090 is like the other models in the family, well known for its toughness and ruggedness. It can easily withstand 4 feet drops to concrete and 500 1/2-meter tumbles. The Motorola MC3090 is perfect for retail use and best suited even in the most demanding industrial applications. It can even deliver 802.11a/b/g capability.

Motorola introduced the MC3090-Z in December, 2009 and is now serving as an extension of the super successful MC3000, a device that sold a record 750,000 units in four years. The MC3090-Z is a much more rugged and reliable RFID reader with several improvements over the MC3000 specially suited for field service and business environments.

Motorola MC3090-Z is according to the company, the lightest handheld reader in its class. It is also recorded to be the first to use a dual-axis antenna. This antenna combines the best points of two types of antennas: linear polarization feature and circular polarization feature. The polarizations are for wider coverage and also for longer readings. The device is versatile enough and can be critical in item-level traceability in retail as well as asset management. Its data capture is sensitive enough to make it ideal for retail cycle-counting, inventory tracking and asset tracking.

The hand held device is powered by a smart and efficient 520MHz Marvell PXA270 processor with 128MB of random access memory and 1 GB of Flash memory. It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 as the operating system.

The handheld computer MC3090-Z series is also compatible with Microsoft Biz Talk Server 2006 R2. It supports Microsoft.NET 2.0-based applications and APIs, and allows users to host applications on their own readers.
